Laurent Ferrier

Galet Secret Tourbillon

While horology can itself border on art, every now and then I get something in that is a true art piece. Laurent Ferrier is a master of class: perfection in restrained design. With the Galet Secret, he has created a piece of visual poetry.

What first looks to be a simple, time-only watch with a “fan-like” dial is actually so much more. The dial is actually made of smoked sapphire and hides a drop-dead-gorgeous hand-painted grand feu enamel dial underneath. Once a day at a preset time, the dial opens on its own to reveal the night sky. Then, the following morning, it closes itself. This is no small feat of horology! This can also be done manually with the button in the crown. The craftsmanship is absolutely top notch. Of course the watch also happens to feature LF’s double spiral tourbillon movement that is one of the most gorgeous in the industry. All housed in a beautifully proportioned white gold case.
